Registered Nurse – Pre/Post-Op (Full-Time) | UPMC Magee
Join our team at UPMC Magee as a Full-Time Registered Nurse supporting Pre-Op, PACU, and Phase II care within the Main Operating Room. This role is ideal for an experienced RN who thrives in a fast-paced perioperative environment and values opportunities for clinical growth and career advancement.
We are pleased to offer a $15,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates with a 2-year work commitment, along with access to our clinical career ladder to support long‑term professional development.
This position follows a 4-day workweek (4x9-hour shifts), primarily Monday–Friday, with shifts starting as early as 5:30 a.m. and ending as late as 6:30 p.m. The schedule offers excellent work–life balance, with limited nights, weekend call, and holiday requirements.
As an essential member of the perioperative team, you will provide high-quality nursing care throughout the surgical experience—preparing patients preoperatively, supporting recovery in PACU, and ensuring a safe transition during Phase II discharge preparation.

Responsibilities:
- Identifies opportunities to improve clinical quality and the work environment, applying evidence‑based practice and participating in initiatives that enhance patient care.
- Serves as a professional nursing role model, demonstrating leadership through clinical expertise, education, and resource support. Provides constructive feedback, participates in peer review, and engages in shared governance at the unit and hospital levels.
- Supports the development of others by precepting students, graduate nurses, and new team members. Shares evidence-based resources, seeks feedback, and contributes to continuous learning on the unit.
- Applies the nursing process using Relationship-Based Care to deliver holistic, patient-centered care. Communicates effectively with patients and the care team, documents thoroughly, and uses critical thinking to address clinical and psychosocial needs.
- Builds positive, respectful relationships and promotes a healthy workplace culture. Demonstrates cultural awareness, addresses disruptive behaviors, and maintains balance through prioritization and delegation.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- BSN preferred.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and assess age‑specific patient needs across the lifespan.
- Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on the Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted and remain at this level.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, caring relationships with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment.
- Requires excellent clinical judgment, critical thinking, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Physical requirements include mobility, manual dexterity, and stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning.
- Must annually complete an approved professional contribution aligned with department/hospital/system goals OR obtain a UPMC‑approved nursing certification within one year (unless exempt with a Master’s in Nursing or DNP).
- If holding a BSN, a Master’s in a related field may substitute for certification.
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current state licensure or multistate compact license.
- Individuals relocating into the facility’s state must obtain state licensure within 60 days of residency change.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR per AHA standards (didactic + skills validation) within 30 days of hire.
- Act 34 Clearance required.
- UPMC-approved nursing certification preferred or required per annual professional contribution guidelines.
